International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition AUGUST 23

 The International Day of Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition is celebrated on August 23 each year. It is the night of August 22 to 23, 1791 that began in Santo Domingo (today Haiti and the Dominican Republic) the uprising that would play a decisive role in the abolition of the transatlantic slave trade.
The Slave Route

The International Day of Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition is intended to inscribe the tragedy of trafficking in the memory of all peoples. Within the objectives of intercultural project "'The Slave Route", it must provide an opportunity for joint reflection on the historical causes, modalities and consequences of this tragedy, as well as an analysis of the interactions that it has generated between Africa, Europe, the Americas and the Caribbean.

The UNESCO Director-General invites Culture Ministers of all member States to organize actions involving all the populations of their countries and particularly young people, educators, artists and intellectuals.
