Why this initiative?

It was at the hospital Innocenti (Florence, Italy) in August 1990, was the site of an international meeting on breastfeeding with representatives of 30 governments, many United Nations organizations and organizations non-governmental (NGOs). Following this meeting, in February 1991, organizations and individuals wishing to protect, support and promote breastfeeding created a global network called WABA (World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action, French World Alliance for Breastfeeding), with the support of UNICEF.

One of the main actions of this network is the organization of a global annual week devoted to breastfeeding, in order to give a breastfeeding visibility, and allow everyone in the world to express their support for what is now an international public health concern.
